Rio Ferdinand has said on BT Sport 1 (7:51pm, May 15, 2021) that reported Tottenham Hotspur managerial target Brendan Rodgers should leave only for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

The former Manchester United defender believes that Rodgers has taken himself to such a level that he should leave Leicester City only if Liverpool, City or the Red Devils come calling.

90min reported earlier this month that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is so desperate to appoint Rodgers as the manager that he is willing to make him the second-highest paid boss in the Premier League after City’s Pep Guardiola.

Ferdinand said about Rodgers on BT Sport 1 (7:51pm, May 15, 2021): “He only leaves if he gets linked or he gets recruited by the top two or three teams in this league, by a Man United, in terms of its stature, by a Man United, by a Liverpool or by a Man City. Anywhere else, he doesn’t go. Simple as that.”

Former United star Ferdinand made the aforementioned comments about Rodgers following Leicester’s success in the FA Cup.

The Foxes have got the better of Premier League rivals Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup.

Leicester could finish in the Premier League top four this season as well.

If that happens, then there is no reason for Rodgers to go to Tottenham, who are not going to play in the Champions League next season.

While Spurs are a massive club, Rodgers seems settled at Leicester where he has built a strong team.

Regarding Liverpool, Rodgers was in charge of the Reds before he left for Celtic and almost guided them to the Premier League title.

Jurgen Klopp seems happy at Liverpool, and it is unlikely that the Reds will come calling for Rodgers when he leaves.

Steven Gerrard will probably be Klopp’s successor at Liverpool.
