Ian Wright was critical of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for the role he played in France’s brutal World Cup final loss to Argentina on Sunday in Qatar.

The Highbury legend stated that Tottenham’s number one, who Antonio Conte is looking to move on, isn’t imposing enough as France were beaten in a penalty shootout.

On the other side, Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez saved a spot kick and also forced Aurélien Tchouaméni to shoot wide, as his antics during the shootout resulted in his side lifting the World Cup.

To put it simply, Tottenham’s £12 million man (BBC Sport) hasn’t saved a spot-kick in a shootout during his career and it showed against Argentina.

When Wright was comparing Villa’s number one to the man that dons Tottenham’s gloves, he noticed the stark difference, as he told Wrighty’s House Podcast.

“I like Emi (Martinez),” said Wright. “But what he did in the shootout, it crossed the line, in respects of sportsmanship, it crossed the line.

“I am looking at Lloris in there right and he doesn’t look imposing.”

THE END OF THE ROAD FOR LLORIS?

Lloris will go down as one of Tottenham’s greatest-ever goalkeepers, certainly the best during the Premier League era.

But he turns 36 next week and it seems as though those in north London are looking for a long-term replacement, with Everton’s Jordan Pickford talked about a lot.

Spurs put the money down on the table for Richarlison in the summer, but Everton’s financial troubles played a part in that.

It wouldn’t be a surprise that if Tottenham go knocking for Pickford, then Everton put up more of a fight to keep him.
