Rafael van der Vaart has slammed Tottenham and Arsenal transfer target, Memphis Depay, after his crucial penalty miss for the Netherlands.
On Saturday, Depay watched his penalty strike the post, as Louis Van Gaal’s side recorded a 2-2 draw against Poland in the UEFA Nations League.
Ex-Spurs man Van der Vaart stated that the Barcelona man, who is a ‘top player’ had a ‘bad game’, as he told NOS.

But the outspoken former midfielder added by saying, Depay, who is being linked with Arsenal and Tottenham this summer, is Holland’s ‘best player’.
He added that the £17 million rated man is what Arjen Robben used to be for their national team, but made it clear that he ‘doesn’t bring it’ like the former Bayern star used to.
“Memphis played a bad game,” said Van der Vaart. “Then you can wonder whether he should take that penalty, but you want that as a great player.
“It may happen that he misses once, but you will of course look at him critically (after missing his third in recent games). And if you miss then it’s just a dramatic night for such a top player.
“You can expect more from him. He plays for Barcelona. He is our best player, he is to us what Arjen Robben used to be. But he doesn’t bring it, unfortunately.”

DEPAY ON THE MOVE THIS SUMMER?
Somehow and somewhere, Barcelona are still being talked about in the summer transfer market, despite the club being in a financial mess.
The La Liga giants have been linked with Bayern Munich hitman, Robert Lewandowski this summer.
Could his possible arrival open the door for Depay’s exit? He only signed for the club last summer on a free transfer from Lyon.
Either way, the former Manchester United man, who struggled the last time he was in England, could return to these shores.
And if that’s the case, then the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal, who will be competing in Europe next season, need their forward lines bulking up.
