Rio Ferdinand has waxed-lyrical about Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Dominic Calvert-Lewin after their performances for Everton against Chelsea.

Speaking on Ferdinand’s Five YouTube channel, he stated that someone like Calvert-Lewin ‘does a bit of everything’, as the Everton man currently tops the goalscoring charts in the Premier League.

Ever since Carlo Ancelotti walked through the Goodison Park doors, the Italian has transformed the career of Calvert-Lewin, who has now become one of the most feared marksmen in the league.

Added with Everton’s deadly forward, Ferdinand also praised their summer signing Godfrey and the backline as a whole given how they performed during their win against Frank Lampard’s side.

“He throws in two centre-halves,” said Ferdinand. “New signing. £30 odd million for Ben Godfrey from Norwich. He comes in and plays left-back. He’s a centre-back. It was an enormous performance. And right-back, Mason Holgate. He was tremendous too in that area.

“So, two players who know how to defend – they absolutely shutdown the wide areas where Chelsea have had a lot of fun and a lot of success in recent games when they are winning.

“Then in the centre of that you have got, Michael Keane, who was immense. Outstanding. He’s been consistently good recently and Mina, who was clearing everything as well.

“Calvert-Lewin as well. The way he is playing upfront. He is a nuisance. He’s hard to play against. I think he must be one of the awkward and hardest to play against strikers in the league, at the moment because of his physicality. The way he runs you down. He runs in the channels. He does a bit of everything.”

Ancelotti is working his magic on Merseyside, and whilst performances have been indifferent of late, there is certainly a change happening.

For years now, Everton have spent millions to get into Europe only for it to result in another mid-table finish.

But given Ancelotti’s success in Europe, the Everton supporters don’t have a better man in charge to steer their ship towards the elite.
