Nacho Fernandez has defended Mohamed Salah’s comments ahead of Liverpool’s showdown with Real Madrid tonight.
The 31-year-old told Marca that Liverpool’s speed king ‘didn’t tell any lie’ when he claimed that the Reds have ‘closed the gap’ on the Spanish giants since that 2018 Champions League final.
Whilst a lot of Liverpool supporters would like to eradicate that game from their memory, they have turned into a different animal since that night, lifting the European Cup and the Premier League title.
Nonetheless, Nacho defended Salah’s comments about Liverpool closing the gap ahead of tonight’s mouthwatering showdown.
“Salah didn’t tell any lie to MARCA,” said Nacho about the £34 million Liverpool star. “Since that final, we have lost Cristiano and they are champions. But there is not that much difference.
“We enter the tie in a very good way. We are focused on our job.”

Nacho could have been on the other side of the fence if recent rumours are believed to be true.
Spanish outlet AS claim that Liverpool thought about bringing the experienced centre-back to the club following the spate of injuries for them at the back.
Instead, the versatile defender will have to deal with a fit and firing Salah, who will be eager to put the wrongs of that 2018 final right tonight.
