Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to Jurgen Klopp and Cesar Azpilicueta’s exchange after their sides 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday evening.
This was the first game this season where two Premier League title contenders – Liverpool and Chelsea – locked horns, and it didn’t disappoint because it was an energy-charged game with its added drama.
Most of it occurred at the end of the first half, when Chelsea were reduced to ten men, after it was adjudged that Reece James used his arm in a deliberate manner to deny a goalscoring opportunity when standing on the goal-line.
Liverpool fans have been used to this sight plenty of times before, but Mohamed Salah stepped up and converted his spot-kick to make it 1-1 – Kai Havertz’ well-timed and flicked header had earlier put Chelsea ahead.
Nonetheless, given that James’ sending off was the major talking point at the break, it filtered its way to the end of the match and after the full-time whistle.
When Azpilicueta was talking to referee Anthony Taylor about the red card, Klopp could be seen coming into the picture and seemingly disputing the Chelsea man’s cries that it wasn’t a sending off.
Both then proceeded to put their arms around each other before continuing to exchange words, as the Liverpool fanbase tried to guess what was exactly said between the duo.
Some Liverpool fans cheekily suggested that Klopp was telling the Spanish defender that he goes down too easily during the game.
Azpilicueta was being a nuisance throughout the 90 minutes, especially at corners, as he could be seen tussling with the opposition players and trying to put them off.
And despite being down to ten men for an entire half, Thomas Tuchel’s side did pretty well to keep a fast-moving and lethal Liverpool forward line at bay.
Nonetheless, this is how Liverpool fans reacted to Azpilicueta and Klopp’s exchange after the FT whistle:
