Jermaine Jenas has said on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (11:27pm, April 25, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min looked scared against Kyle Walker.
Tottenham suffered a 1-0 defeat to Premier League rivals Manchester City in the final of the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday.
Aymeric Laporte scored the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute to crush Spurs’ dreams of winning a major trophy.
City were the better team and probably deserved the win, and not many Tottenham players can say that they played well.
Hugo Lloris made some superb saves for Spurs, and Toby Alderweireld also did well in defence.
One of the players who did not play well for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup final is Son.
The 28-year-old South Korea international forward did not have a good game, as he failed to trouble the City defence and also lost possession of the ball easily.
According to WhoScored, the former Bayer Leverkusen star did not take a single shot, played one key pass, and took 38 touches.
Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas believes that Son looked scared of facing City right-back and ex-Spurs star Walker.
Jenas said on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (11:27pm, April 25, 2021): “The front three didn’t function. I have never seen Son look so scared to a point facing Kyle Walker. It’s like he didn’t dare run at him.”
Disappointing display
Son is one of the best forwards in the Premier League and has done well for Spurs this season.
According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old has scored 15 goals and provided nine assists in the Premier League and scored three goals and gave one assist in the Europa League this season.
It was a bad day at the office for Son, but there is no doubt that he is a very important player for Spurs.
