‘He did sell me’: Tottenham sent Mauricio Pochettino message about a possible return

Michael Dawson has hailed Mauricio Pochettino as a ‘great manager’ as he could make a possible return to Tottenham Hotspur colours in the summer.

The former Premier League centre-back shared that when Mauricio Pochettino first walked through the doors of Tottenham in 2014, he sold him, but he holds ‘no grudges’ against the 51-year-old.

On Sunday evening, Daniel Levy booted Antonio Conte out of the door and told Cristian Stellini to hold the fort until the end of the season. Could he be Tottenham’s next manager if he guides them to fourth?

Whatever happens, Tottenham are in a mess again, with another interim in charge and they might also lose their Champions League status for the following campaign.

Michael Dawson defended under-fire Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and how he has the club’s best interest at heart when making the big calls, as he told Sky Sports News.

“When Pochettino came in 2014, great manager,” said Dawson. “Although, Mauricio did sell me. I hold no grudges. Where he took the football club, to the next level and the Champions League final.

“It was so close. That could have been the difference. You win that. Also semi-finals of FA Cups. But he just couldn’t get them over the line, unfortunately.

“Daniel Levy, one thing he does, is he always believes he is doing the best for the football club. Sacking him would have been a wrench. They bring in Jose Mourinho and that didn’t work. He will be looking to try and bring in the best person who can take the club forward.”

TOTTENHAM SHOULD LOOK ELSEWHERE

If Spurs are going to knock on Pochettino’s door again, then they might as well do it with a big massive sign on their head that reads ‘we have gone backwards’.

Don’t go back. There is no need. There is plenty of fish in the sea and Pochettino returning will just raise the obvious questions if things start to go wrong.

Many names have been mentioned outside of the former PSG man, including the recently-sacked Bayern Munich coach, Julian Nagelsmann, whose agent has been in England for talks.
