Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports Football (1:28pm, April 24, 2021) that he feels sorry for Rhian Brewster that it has not worked out for him since leaving Liverpool.

The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has said that he likes the 21-year-old striker, who left Liverpool for Sheffield United last summer.

According to BBC Sport, the Blades paid Liverpool £23.5 million as transfer fee to secure the services of the 21-year-old.

Merson has said that although it has not worked out for the England Under-21 international at United, he did score goals before the move.

The Englishman said on Sky Sports Football (1:28pm, April 24, 2021): “I do like the kid Brewster. I do like him. I feel sorry for him that it hasn’t worked out. He did score goals.

“He had been at Liverpool, he had been a kid at Liverpool, then he went to Swansea and scored goals, and they did pay a lot of money, they took a chance.”

Sheffield United struggles

Brewster did well for the Liverpool youth team, but the striker could not break into manager Jurgen Klopp’s senior side.

It did not come as a surprise when last summer Klopp decided to let the striker leave for United.

The 21-year-old striker played well for Swansea City in the Championship during his loan spell in the second half of last season.

According to WhoScored, the striker scored 11 goals in 22 Championship appearances for the Swans.

The 21-year-old has made 11 starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Blades this season, but he has not found the back of the net even once, according to WhoScored.

The Blades have already been relegated to the Championship, and Brewster will hope to deliver the goods in the second tier of English football next season.
