Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told The Telegraph of how he came off second best in a training ground challenge with defender Cameron-Carter Vickers.
Whilst Harry Winks is the latest Tottenham academy graduate to step up into the first team under Pochettino, Spurs also have high hopes for defender Carter-Vickers.
The 19-year-old centre back, whose father is former NBA player Howard Carter, meaning he has chosen to play for the United States at international level despite being born in Southend, has been tipped for a bright future at White Hart Lane having joined the club at the age of just 11.
Whilst many expected manager Pochettino to swoop for another centre back to beef up his defensive options last summer, the Argentinian kept his hand in his pocket, and instead decided that Carter-Vickers would be first-team cover at the back.
He has only appeared four times in all competitions this season, but Carter-Vickers will be hoping to nail down a first-team spot in the coming years.
Now, manager Pochettino has been speaking about just how tough Carter-Vickers is, telling a story to The Telegraph from a Tottenham training session on Friday.

Pochettino – a former centre back himself – has admitted that he tried to join in during training, but hurt is hand whilst trying to challenge the defender.
Pochettino added that Carter-Vickers simply ‘crushed’ everybody in the box, making comments that will excite Spurs fans about the defender’s future at White Hart Lane.
“I did it today again,” said Pochettino. “I challenged with Cameron and hurt my hand. He crushed everyone in the box,” he added.
