Luis Diaz was one of Liverpool’s best players on Saturday.
The Reds moved into the final of the FA Cup with a 3-2 victory over Manchester City at Wembley.
Diaz, a £49 million signing in January, wasn’t one of the goalscorers, but it was still a towering performance from Liverpool’s newest star nonetheless.
Despite only joining a number of months ago, the 25-year-old looks and plays like he’s been part of Jurgen Klopp’s set-up for years.
And one moment in the first half, when he plucked a ball out of the sky before releasing Sadio Mane down the left-hand side, epitomised his effortless transition to life at Liverpool.
Here’s what Martin Keown said on BBC Sport about the above moment.
He said: “Well you get the feeling he could play in a telephone box, Diaz. There’s absolutely no space, takes it out of the sky and just waltzs past people. Brilliant.”
This is the player Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign, prior to Liverpool hijacking the transfer.
In fairness to Spurs, they were definitely on to something because Keown is right – this lad could play football in a phonebox.
Everything about him just stinks of class and he’s going to be a massive player for Liverpool over the coming years.
He’s going to be part of the Reds’ next generation of stars and if he’s this good already, just wait until he has fully adapted to life and football in England.
