Former Manchester United player Andrei Kanchelskis has hailed reported Louis van Gaal target Yevhen Konoplyanka.
Former Manchester United star Andrei Kanchelskis has been talking about his ex-club’s reported target Yevhen Konoplyanka.
The Ukraine winger was hotly tipped to join Liverpool back in January, only for a move to fail to materialise. The Reds and Tottenham Hotspur were both said to be monitoring the player, but more recently it is United who could have edged to the front of the queue.
Konoplyanka scored 13 goals and provided nine assists for his current club Dnipro last season. And the 24-year-old is reportedly one of four players Louis van Gaal wants at United according to recent reports from Holland.
The player himself may not be quite so keen, having reportedly said he would rather stay where he is to play Champions League football than move to Old Trafford.
But things may change if speculation became reality and a concrete offer was made. And Kanchelskis believes that would be a wise move on United’s part.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, the former right-winger said, “To me he is like Arjen Robben. He is similar to him and if that is the kind of player Louis van Gaal likes then why not go for Konoplyanka?”
United have been linked with Robben himself since van Gaal’s appointment, but the Dutch international said he was happy at current club Bayern Munich.
So if United want a player with a similar skill-set and for a relatively cheap fee, they could do far worse than sign Konoplyanka, at least according to one of their former stars.
