Liverpool will also be without manager Jurgen Klopp for their midweek clash with Arsenal.
The Reds visit North London on Thursday for the first leg of a League Cup semi final at the Emirates Stadium.
The Liverpool boss missed Sunday’s trip to Chelsea after returning a positive COVID test.
Klopp’s side were two goals ahead at Stamford Bridge but ultimately drew 2-2.
The German’s assistant, Pep Lijnders, oversaw that one.
And the Dutch coach has revealed that Liverpool will also be without their ‘leader’ against Arsenal in midweek.
He told BBC Sport: “No, he can’t because of quarantine rules. He has mild symptoms. But Jurgen is a very optimistic, positive leader, he’s our leader, our boss. I just hope it stays mild symptoms and that he’s back quick with us.”
Bad news
Simply put, it is bad news, yes.
Well it’s good news that Klopp only has mild symptoms, but Liverpool did suffer without him yesterday.
Jamie Carragher remarked on Sky that he was shocked over how little control his former side had against Chelsea.
It seemed chaos on the field, with little organisation – particularly in the first half – and it’s probably no coincidence that it came in a match where Liverpool didn’t have their manager in attendance.
Arsenal, who may be without Mikel Arteta for the same reason, are bang in form and they have some brilliant players who will hurt Liverpool.
So if Klopp’s troops are similarly sloppy at the Emirates, you’d fear for the visitors.
