Writing in his column for The Athletic, Demba Ba has been discussing Senegal’s chances of beating England on Sunday and Pape Matar Sarr.

Ba highlighted some of the players that will have to step up and make an impact against the Three Lions if Senegal are to progress, and he highlighted Spurs’ Sarr as a player who could be a difference-maker.

Indeed, Ba says that while Sarr doesn’t have the experience of someone like Sadio Mane, he can bring something to Senegal’s offensive play and prove to be a threat to the English backline.

Sarr could make the difference

Ba spoke about the Spurs 20-year-old.

“Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr doesn’t have the experience of Sadio but he can bring something else, especially offensively. He can threaten them. Some of those kids now have to step in and do the job for us,” Ba wrote.

Chance to announce himself

Sarr has looked like one of the most promising young players in Europe for a little while now, but Sunday represents a real chance for him to announce himself on the world stage.

A standout performance against England at the World Cup is bound to make people sit up and take notice of his ability, while it would certainly help his chances of getting into the Spurs first-team too.

Tottenham’s midfield is lacking a real edge at the moment, and as Ba says, Sarr is a player who can threaten opposition defences, so perhaps he could solve a few of the north London club’s problems going forward.

England fans will be hoping that Sarr has a quiet game on Sunday, but don’t be shocked if he makes a few headlines this weekend.
