Darren Bent has praised the technical qualities of Thiago Alcantara and believes he would get into Liverpool’s starting XI as he edges closer to a potential move to Anfield.

The former striker also claimed that he is ‘surprised’ that Pep Guardiola, who ‘raves’ about him, and Manchester City haven’t come in for the Bayern Munich man, as he told talkSPORT (16/08/20 at 4:40 pm).

French outlet RMC Sport have reported that Thiago has told his Bayern teammates that he is leaving and has agreed on a four-year deal with the Premier League champions.

Bent was told about the Thiago news and spoke in awe of the Spanish player and questioned why his former manager hasn’t come hunting for his signature.

“He can play, by the way,” Bent told talkSPORT. “We see some of the touches he has got. The way he manoeuvres his body.

“Do you know what I am quite surprised that Pep’s not tried to get him because Pep raves about him when he was at Barcelona. He was saying how good he was. It always surprises me.

“Wasn’t it Pep who took him to Bayern Munich? It really surprises me that he wouldn’t take him at Manchester City.

On whether Thiago gets into Liverpool’s starting XI: “I think so, yes,” Bent added.

Whilst Bent may not be aware, City were seemingly in the race for Thiago’s signature and Liverpool were at one point worried he could join their title rivals, as previously reported by Sport Bild.

From Jurgen Klopp’s perspective, even though a deal is yet to be completed, it does seem as though he will secure the services of the midfielder.

In what was one of the most shocking results in European Cup history, Thiago was the artist in the middle of the park as his Bayern side put eight past Barcelona during their Champions League showdown on Friday.

If Thiago does move to Anfield then he may well end up on Merseyside as a European Cup winner.
