Kieran Tierney has been arguably Arsenal’s best player this season.
When the Player of the Year votes come in, there might not be much in it between Tierney and Gunners winger Bukayo Saka.
There was a time in the not too distant past where the Arsenal defender, despite being a left-back, was the man who had created most chances for his team-mates in an attacking sense this season.
The 23-year-old’s attacking quality was on show again in midweek when the former Celtic star bagged no fewer than three assists in Scotland’s 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands.
Tierney only joined Arsenal from Celtic in a £25 million deal less than two years ago.
But speaking on Sky Sports News, Scottish legend Kris Boyd has suggested that he may already be getting too good for the Emirates Stadium side – who are ninth in the Premier League table – and claimed that he could get an even bigger move away from North London if he wanted.
Boyd told Sky Sports News: “For all Arsenal are a big club, I think Kieran Tierney’s got another move in him. I think he’s got a move to one of Europe’s biggest. Once he got himself in the team he’s performed to a level that I don’t there’s many left-sided players in the Premier League are performing at. I think he can go again. I think he can go to one of the bigger ones [clubs].”
Arsenal fans won’t thank Boyd for his comments, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t true.
In terms of attitude, speed and general and genuine ability, Tierney does seem to have it all and the further the Gunners fall from competing for top honours, the tougher it’ll be to keep players like this.
