Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Seamus Coleman has claimed that Ben Godfrey could be a future Everton captain.
The Toffees’ current skipper says that the defender has the attributes needed to be the captain of the Merseyside club one day, stating that he could be skipper wherever he ends up playing.
What’s been said?
Coleman was asked if he sees Godfrey as a leader in the future, to which he replied:
“Yeah I do see him as a leader in the future. Without a shadow of a doubt, I think he’s a fantastic player, he’s a fantastic professional, he’s got some amazing attributes. He’s already a leader, I can see that growing even at the start of this pre-season compared to last season. The way he played for us last season was outstanding, he was unlucky to miss out on England, it came a bit late for him. He can be captain one day at this football club or wherever he plays.”

Perfect
Godfrey could be the perfect future Everton captain.
Not only is he an incredibly talented player, but he’s also a consummate professional.
Godfrey conducts himself brilliantly on and off the pitch, and he’d be a fantastic role model for any player who joins the club.
At the age of just 23, he still has a lot of growing to do, and if he continues to progress and mature it may not be long before he’s given increased responsibility at Goodison Park.
