According to The Independent, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
The goalkeeper has been brilliant over the past couple of years. He broke into the Arsenal team towards the end of the 2019/20 season, and since then he’s only gone from strength to strength.
Indeed, Martinez has been excellent for both Aston Villa and Argentina, so much so that Lionel Messi has even singled him out for praise in the past.
What’s been said?
Speaking to TNT Sports, Messi had nothing but praise for the goalkeeper after Martinez kept a clean sheet against Uruguay earlier this month.
“Dibu [Emi] Martinez has been fundamental. When we are defending, he always delivers. He has established himself in goal, and now we have one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” Messi said.
Perfect Lloris replacement
If you’re getting rave reviews from Messi, who is widely regarded as the greatest footballer of all-time, then you must be something of a special player.
Tottenham could certainly do with another goalkeeper at this point. After all, Hugo Lloris isn’t getting any younger and it seems as though the Argentine could be the Frenchman’s perfect replacement.
This would be an excellent signing if Spurs could get it over the line, and to make it that much sweeter, Martinez is a player Arsenal let go prematurely.
