Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has paid a quite lovely tribute to Adam Lallana.
The 32-year-old is in line to potentially face his old club tonight ahead of Brighton’s trip to Anfield.
Lallana left Liverpool on a free transfer last summer after helping the Reds to Premier League title glory.
The former Southampton attacker was a very popular player at Melwood and not least among Klopp, who spoke glowingly about the player in a matchday programme for tonight’s clash.
He said: “I will have to stop myself saying too much on Adam Lallana because I could write a book. And I have to be respectful to the fact he is our opponent today… he wants to beat us and we him.
“I must mention what a special person he was for us – and in truth remains so. When he left, I described him as a Liverpool legend for his contribution and I read somewhere recently he felt a little embarrassed by that. But he absolutely shouldn’t. It’s a status he has earned and then some.
“Thirty-six Premier League matches a season I look forward to seeing Adam play. There are two when I do not… today is one of those.”
Lallana would clearly love the chance to face Liverpool tonight, but he might not.
After all, Brighton won 1-0 against Spurs last time around and on that occasion, the England international could only make the bench.
Graham Potter won’t be keen on changing a winning formula but if the Seagulls need a goal at any point – and let’s face it, they probably will – then perhaps Lallana will indeed get a chance to impress.
