According to the Evening Standard, Jan Vertonghen has returned from injury earlier than expected, and could even play against Chelsea on Saturday.

It is a timely boost to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as the injury problems continue to mount up for Spurs, with fellow centre back Davinson Sanchez still nursing a hamstring injury.

Vertonghen has been injured for Spurs since the 29th September, also damaging his hamstring in a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Since the Belgian centre back’s lay off, Spurs have performed admirably and coped with the loss of Vertonghen expertly.

Sanchez was continuing his fine form from last season before his setback, and Toby Alderwerield has made a good return to the starting XI after contract disputes and injuries himself.

Youngster Juan Foyth has also been a revelation in his recent inclusion in the first team, even scoring the only goal of the game in Spurs last Premier League outing away to Crystal Palace.

The Argentine is still expected to start alongside Alderweireld against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, but Vertonghen’s return is still a huge boost for the squad.

And the Spurs fans are certainly delighted at the early return of classy Belgian.
