Kyle Walker-Peters has signed a new long-term contract to stay at Tottenham, and it should be rewarded with a place in the starting XI.

Spurs right-back Kyle Walker-Peters has signed his second contract within seven months for the North London club.

However, the local lad has struggled to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI on a regular basis.

The 21-year-old has made only 11 appearances for Spurs in all completions, despite getting the man of the match award in both of his Premier League starts.

It is no secret, despite the largely secure performances of Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier in recent seasons, that Spurs miss the aggression and forward thrust once provided at full back by Kyle Walker and a fit Danny Rose.

And following his new deal, Walker-Peters may be thrown straight into the deep.

Serge Aurier limped off against Leicester City at the weekend, and with Trippier already injured, Walker-Peters is expected to start the vital Champions League game away to Barcelona.

Both Aurier and Trippier are far more experienced than Walker-Peters, a huge factor in Pochettino primarily choosing them ahead of the Edmonton born youngster.

Aurier attacks with pace and aggression, similar to Walker, but doesn’t have the technique of Trippier.

However, Trippier lacks that ability in one-on-one situations to constantly attack his man, and both are suspect defensively.

Walker-Peters on the other hand is an extremely forward thinking right-back who can dribble with pace, meaning he is able to attack his man on and off the ball.

The 21-year-old’s technique is also exemplary, highlighted by his two assists in as many league starts last season. He is also responsible defensively.

It is unlikely the academy product would have signed yet another contract without guarantees of more first team football in the near future, but now is the time to make Walker-Peters a crucial member of the starting line-up.
