Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura are starting to prove their worth for Tottenham Hotspur, but do the club still need reinforcements in attacking areas?

Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura have made a fantastic start to the season for Tottenham Hotspur, finally looking worthy of their hefty price tags.

The duo have been in scintillating form, even earning recalls to their respective national sides.

Brazilian Lucas has more of an excuse than Argentinian Lamela, as he has been at the North London club less than a year, and arguably used the second half of last season as his bedding in period.

However, Lamela has been with Spurs since 2013 and has not quite lived up to the hype, largely due to injuries.

A lot has been made of Spurs failing to make any acquisitions in the summer. However, does the form of £30 million Lamela and £25 million Lucas mean the pair are like new signings for Mauricio Pochettino?

It is no secret that the Tottenham boss has been looking for a dynamic wide forward who can also play up front to take the burden off Harry Kane, as well as provide another attacking edge.

However, Lucas has largely been deployed as a striker alongside Kane this season to reduce his workload, and he has performed rather well.

The Brazilian has scored seven goals so far this season, including the crucial equaliser against Barcelona to send Spurs through in the Champions League, providing the aggressive pace, skill and dribbling ability Pochettino has been craving.

Lamela has also been a source of goals with six. However, he has a bit more class than Lucas, giving Spurs another creative option in the forward areas, which is crucial with Dele Alli dropping deeper in the past two seasons.

Despite the exploits of Lamela and Lucas this season, they are still not at the level of an Eden Hazard, Mo Salah or Raheem Sterling; players who can consistently provide the moment of magic needed to decide a game.

So, while the form of the South American pair has been a welcome return for Pochettino, and attacking forwards are no longer a propriety, Tottenham could still do with a world-class dribbler who regularly provides end product if they wish to win the big trophies.
