The Real Madrid attacker has long been linked with a potential move back to Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Tottenham Hotspur players Micky Hazard and Graham Roberts have taken to Twitter to have their say on the prospect of Gareth Bale returning to North London.
The Welsh international left White Hart Lane for a then-club record fee back in 2013 but rumours have persisted that he has not worn a Spurs shirt for the last time and some rather bizarre claims from Spain have suggested a swap deal could be on the cards involving Bale and Harry Kane.
That report – from Don Balon – should quickly be dismissed by Tottenham fans, but that does not mean Bale could not one day get another run-out in North London if the price is right. So what do Hazard and Roberts think of that prospect?
Roberts did not rule out the possibility, saying, “There is a price for everyone and, if value, (Spurs) would take of course.”
As for Hazard, he could not help joking about the situation, saying, “I’d have him if he doesn’t cost too much money, say a free transfer.”
At 28, Bale is approaching the stage of his career where he could have one last big move in him, and the simple fact is Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will not spend a huge sum to sign an injury-prone player when he simply does not need him.
That said, in a couple of years, if Bale can stay injury-free and he could have one last hurrah at Tottenham for a decent price.
It may still be unlikely, but Roberts and Hazard both accept that, for the right price, it is a prospect that should not be dismissed out of hand.
