If Yerry Mina has reportedly already rejected Everton and Wolves, then can Aston Villa really have any hopes of signing the Barcelona defender?
Aston Villa are the latest English club to join the chase for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina, with Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb claiming they have made an offer worth £17.8m.
The club’s new billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens want to make a big first impression at Villa and despite financial problems having plagued the Birmingham side in recent times, they will sanction this huge outlay.
Half of the fee would be paid to Barca upfront and half would be based on performance related add ons, but still leaves the Villans way short of the £35m the Mirror reports the reigning Spanish champions want for Mina.
Interest in the Colombia international has greatly increased since the 2018 World Cup, where the centre-back impressed for his country on their run to the last-16 of the tournament by scoring three goals.
Despite this, it seems Mina has no future at the Camp Nou and the Catalans are willing to sell – with Manchester United the latest to show interest having been priced out of a move for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.
This comes after the 23-year-old reportedly rejected potential moves to both Everton and newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers, two teams that could have offered him Premier League football – which Villa, of course, cannot.
So if Mina has deemed that duo not good enough to meet his ambitions, then a switch to Villa Park seems to be a very unlikely prospect.
