Newcastle United and West Ham United are reportedly vying for Saint-Etienne full back Kevin Malcuit.

According to a report from France Football, Saint-Etienne defender Kevin Malcuit has received offers from both Newcastle United and West Ham United ahead of the summer transfer window.

Malcuit, 25, had been on the books with Monaco before seeking first-team football with Frejus Saint-Raphael and Chamois Niortais, eventually making his way back up to Ligue 1 with Saint-Etienne in 2015.

A pacey, attack-minded right back who can also play further forward, Malcuit has notched four assists in all competitions this season, and particularly caught the eye with superb performances over two legs against Manchester United in the Europa League.

Now, France Football believe that Malcuit has now received offers from Newcastle United and West Ham United, with a strong possibility that he will be leaving France this summer.

Newcastle United snapped up DeAndre Yedlin from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, but he has been in and out of the team this season, whilst Jesus Gamez has struggled with injuries and Vurnon Anita is out of contract this summer.

Meanwhile, West Ham United have seen Sam Byram blow hot and cold since joining from Leeds United in January 2016, with Alvaro Arbeloa’s lack of impact leaving Slaven Bilic in desperate need of a new right back.

In truth, either move could be promising for Malcuit, but West Ham may be a better route to guaranteed first-team football, giving that the club have had problems at right back for many years now.

A move to London should also appealing for any player, whilst Saint-Etienne team-mate Henri Saivet endured a nightmare at Newcastle, and with a similar type of player already at the club in DeAndre Yedlin, West Ham – a stable Premier League club – could be a better bet for Malcuit than the newly-promoted Magpies.
