Micah Richards has praised Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:14pm, November 27, 2021) for his performance against Newcastle United on Saturday.
The former Manchester City full-back believes that Tavares was “excellent” for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners won the Premier League game against Newcastle in North London 2-0.
Nuno Tavares impresses for Arsenal
Richards said about Tavares on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:14pm, November 27, 2021): “He was excellent, and I am not just doing it because he is a full-back. He was one of the best players on the pitch.
“What I liked about him is he just didn’t stay, but at every opportunity he went forward, and he went forward with quality.”
Richards added: “He is confident now. He is having fun. £8 million. He is keeping our Kieran Tierney who I really love.”

An Arsenal gem
Kieran Tierney is the first-choice Arsenal left-back, but Tavares is proving to be a class player.
In our view, the 21-year-old is an Arsenal gem.
The youngster is brilliant defensively and is superb going forward.
Tavares, who earns £27,000 per week (Spotrac), provided the assist for Bukayo Saka’s goal in the second half.
Now, of course, Tierney will return to the team soon and will stay there.
After all, the Scotland international is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.
However, in Tavares, Arteta has an able deputy who can actually even compete for a spot in the starting lineup on a regular basis.
In our opinion, Tavares will be an important player for Arsenal as the season progresses and in the coming years.
