Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Tottenham’s goalkeeping situation and something he noticed before Spurs’ game against Frankfurt.
Gold was in the press box for the London club’s Champions League game this week and he noted that once all the warm-ups had finished Fraser Forster stayed out and did a full training session with one of the coaches.
Gold found this to be rather interesting, and he pondered whether or not this was indicative of Forster potentially being in line for a start soon.
Forster’s different routine
Gold shared what he saw Forster doing and gave his theory.
“One thing that I also thought was quite interesting, Fraser Forster, after everyone had gone in, I haven’t seen this before, he stayed in the net and had a proper session in there as if he was starting the game. I may be reading too much into this but maybe they were putting him in there in the noise to get him in the headspace of a big match because maybe he’s going to start a game soon,” Gold said.
Could get a start
After Hugo Lloris’ nightmare showing in the north London derby at the weekend, it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if Forster got a start soon.
We’re not saying that the Englishman will be Spurs’ new number one, but dropping Lloris for a game or two would be a good way to keep him on his toes, and Forster himself isn’t necessarily a bad option either. After all, he’s an England international with Champions League experience.
It’s not often you see goalkeepers rotated, but sometimes it’s a necessity when your number one is showing signs of losing focus and after a high-profile mistake against Arsenal, perhaps Lloris needs that shock to his system.
