Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United won against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday, but Chris Sutton does not think that they will be able to beat Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur and Unai Emery’s Aston Villa to a top-five finish in the Premier League table.

Manchester United registered a thrilling 4-3 win against Liverpool after extra time in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Liverpool headed into the tie as favourites, but it was the Red Devils who got the job done in the end.

United are also in the race for a top-five finish in the Premier League table this season. Erik ten Hag’s side are sixth now with 47 points from 28 games.

The Red Devils are six points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are fifth. Villa are fourth with 56 points from 29 games.

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton does not think that United will finish above Villa and Spurs in the Premier League table this season.

As reported by ESPN, the Premier League could get five places in the UEFA Champions League next season for a superior coefficient system.

Chris Sutton comments on Manchester United’s top-five chances

Sutton said on BBC 606 (6:55 pm, March 17, 2024): “They are not going to get top-five place, Rob. Have you seen Aston Villa and Tottenham? One swallow doesn’t make a summer, as good a win as it was, and it was one of the games of the season.”

My View: Manchester United have got to believe

In my opinion, Manchester United have got to believe that they can end up in the Premier League top five this season.

It is going to be hard. Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have been better teams, and they are still going strong.

United have to win all of their games and will have to hope that Villa and/or Tottenham collapse.

It is unlikely that both the Villans and Spurs will drop a lot of points between now and the end of the season, but Erik ten Hag’s side have to simply hope and work hard.
