Wolves have won the race for Rafa Mir, should Tottenham be kicking themselves.

You may have forgiven Tottenham for conceding defeat in the race for Rafa Mir this time last week, with Marca reporting he was set to swap Valencia for Real Madrid.

Super Deporte had reported last year that Tottenham were ‘serious’ about the striker, who has a prolific record at youth level, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

But after Wolves swooped in to hijack Real’s move, Tottenham may well be asking themselves questions.

SkySports reported the completion of Mir’s move from Valencia to Wolves yesterday, with the 19-year-old joining an impressive array of talents at Molineux.

Since Tottenham’s interest was reported last summer, Mir has netted 15 goals in 19 games for Valencia’s B team.

For just £1.5 million, Spurs have missed out on a potential gem, a player who could have offered something extra

to their potent strikeforce.

Harry Kane may be a clear first choice, while Fernando Llorente is only a short-term solution.

At youth level Shayon Harrison has failed to step up as yet, and while Kazaiah Sterling has promise, he is younger than Mir and has a less prolific record this campaign.

Tottenham’s loss is Wolves gain, but it could well be that the Championship side’s big ambition simply caught Spurs napping.

It seemed impossible that Real Madrid could be beaten to his signature a week ago, but Wolves, aided by the contacts of advisor and super agent Jorge Mendes, continue to outshine clubs in greater positions than them in an effortless manner.
