It promises to be a busy summer for West Ham United after the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as the club’s new manager.

The former coach of Manchester City, Chilean Manuel Pellegrini (L), arrives for the draw of the Copa Sudamericana football tournament, in Santiago, on July 12, 2016.

West Ham have made one of the highest profile managerial appointments in their history after shelling out to bring in Manuel Pellegrini as the club’s 17th manager in their history.

Hammers co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have vowed to back the Chilean with unprecedented spending this summer, as reported by the likes of talkSPORT.

West Ham have been linked with a host of players including Felipe Anderson, Javier Pastore, Marlon Santos and Jack Wilshere, as reported by The Telegraph.

Ryan Fredericks has been signed on a free transfer from Fulham as Pellegrini targets up to seven new players.

But speculation has been rife on fans forums and social media over West Ham’s transfer targets with much talk from self-proclaimed club insiders that the Hammers are looking to recruit a number of French players.

Whether those rumours have credibility or not remains to be seen.

But have West Ham dropped a subtle hint in their announcement of Richard Collinge as the club’s new head of medical, as revealed on whufc.com.

The chartered physiotherapist has more than 20 years of clinical experience and worked for a host of top-level football clubs including Crystal Palace, Watford and Cardiff City as well as MLS club Montreal Impact and the Scotland national team.

But one line in the announcement will have Hammers fans wondering if there is some substance to the speculation.

“A fluent French speaker, Collinge is also a regular visitor to football clubs, hospitals and universities as a lecturer, presenter and expert medical advisor on a wide range of sports medicine topics,” whufc.com said.

French football is enjoying a renaissance at the moment with a supremely talented crop of players making France one of the favourites for the Russia World Cup.

Didier Deschamps is spoiled for choice and had to make many high profile omissions for his final squad due to an embarrassment of riches and injury including former West Ham star Dimitri Payet.
