Sam Field put in a promising performance during West Bromwich Albion’s Premier League draw with Tottenham on Saturday.
A new chapter for West Brom began in impressive fashion last week as they kicked off the post-Tony Pulis era with a spirited 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Wembley in a game that the Baggies led for around 70 minutes.
The performance was almost a complete contrast to what the West Brom supporters seemingly had to get used to during the final months of Pulis’ tenure with the side not winning a league game since August.
While their winless run continues, there were signs that suggest that that run may not last much longer – and one of the main positives to emerge from the game was the performance of Sam Field.
Field had made just two starts in the league this season before Gary Megson brought him back into the fold at Wembley and had not appeared at all in the Premier League since the second weekend of the season – which was the day the Baggies picked up their most recent win.
And yet, the 19-year-old did not look out of place sharing a pitch with players who dismantled Real Madrid on the same ground a few weeks beforehand and wrapped up top spot in their Champions League group a few days before the draw.
From a possible nine points, West Brom have taken seven points when the teenager has been playing, and the Baggies have not conceded a single goal when he has been on the pitch this term.
It, of course, would be extreme to suggest that Field’s form is the reason for those statistics, but his display at Spurs shows that he is ready to feature more regularly at the highest level, and with a new manager set to come in, he could not have picked a better time to hint that he could be an absolute gem for the Baggies.
