Tottenham Hotspur winning their Champions League group could have negative repercussions for both Manchester United and Manchester City.

So far in the Premier League, Manchester City and to a lesser extent Manchester United have had the edge on Tottenham Hotspur.

But in the Champions League, Spurs have matched their rivals’ performances and may have dealt their rivals a significant blow.

Tottenham beat Dortmund last night to secure first place in their Champions League group.

And in the process they have pushed current holders Real Madrid down into second place.

This could go onto prove to be a real blow to United or City, as they are each on course to win their groups.

The advantage of winning your group is it supposedly hands you an easier draw. But it backfired on Arsenal last season as they landed Bayern Munich, who had finished in second place in theirs.

Bayern are this year likely to finish second in their group again behind PSG, and they will be a team United and City want to avoid.

Now thanks to Tottenham, Real Madrid are another team the Manchester clubs will need to avoid, and their chances of an ‘easy’ draw as reward for winning their groups reduced further.
