Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are in battle for the Premier League title.
Eden Hazard’s comments about Tottenham Hotspur may suggest that he is treating them with a little more respect this season.
Last campaign, when Tottenham were battling out it for the title with Leicester City, Hazard caused a great deal of controversy with his comments about the Lilywhites.
The Belgian international suggested that Spurs did not deserve to win the title and that everyone at Stamford Bridge wanted Leicester to be champions.
“We don’t want Tottenham to win the Premier League — the fans, the club and the players,” Hazard said last season to ESPN.
“In football you never know. We hope for Leicester, because they deserve to be champions, but we will see. We have a big game next week against Tottenham, and if we can beat them it will be good.”
Of course, it was Hazard that scored the goal which put an end to Tottenham’s title dreams.
And the fleet-footed winger will be plotting Spurs’ demise this time around too, as Chelsea are locked in competition with Mauricio Pochettino’s side for top spot.
Chelsea are currently four points clear of Spurs, but Hazard’s comments about the Blues’ London rival’s showed slightly more respect this time around.
“They are strong and we are strong, so it will be a good fight until the end,” he said.
Chelsea can take a step closer to the Premier League title by winning against Southampton this evening, while Spurs face Crystal Palace tomorrow.
