Is Davinson Sanchez being primed to take Toby Alderweireld’s place?

Tottenham Hotspur raised a few eyebrows last summer when they chose to spend a club record fee on a centre-back.
Nobody was questioning Davinson Sanchez’s talent, it was just a little surprising that Spurs invested so much in a position which was already their strongest, and the Premier League’s best.
Right now, it is starting to make a little more sense.
Tottenham are at risk of losing star defender Toby Alderweireld amid his ongoing contract dispute, and The Mirror report they are open to selling him this summer.

This would normally leave Tottenham with a dilemma, wondering how to replace him. Davinson Sanchez’s presence means the pressure is off.
Is this a coincidence? It would be unfair on Tottenham to assume so.
Instead they should be given credit for being proactive and seeing the Alderweireld situation coming, and taking early action to bring in a replacement.

Sanchez has had the benefit of playing and learning alongside the Belgian this season, and if Alderweireld ends up staying, it’s no bad thing.
Spurs have further strength in depth with Juan Foyth and Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Eric Dier has impressed in central defence this season.
Tottenham could still seek to add another centre-back if Alderweireld goes, but their big spending on the position may already be done.
