Don Goodman has told Sky Sports, during their live coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s game against West Bromwich Albion, that Jose Mourinho looked like he apologised to Slaven Bilic at full-time yesterday.
Tottenham beat West Brom 1-0 at the Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon, but they were not at their best during the contest.
Spurs actually survived a few scares, with West Brom putting in a really spirited display.
Ultimately Tottenham’s class pulled them through though, with Harry Kane scoring a late header.
But Mourinho was keen not to gloat in his side’s success at full-time, and Goodman felt his reaction showed that the Spurs boss knew the game could have gone either way.
“You have to say the hug between Bilic and Mourinho did at the end said it all. He was almost apologetic, Jose Mourinho, which you can afford to be when you’ve just nicked three points,” Goodman, who was co-commentating on the game, said.
“It’s three important points for Spurs, but at least one point which got away from West Bromwich Albion.”
The points were indeed vital for Tottenham, as they pushed Mourinho’s side to the top of the table.
Although Leicester’s win later in the day knocked them down to second, the sight of being at the summit is sure to have given Spurs’s players plenty of confidence.
Tottenham are next in action in two weekends’ time, when they take on Manchester City, and if they can pick up the three points in that fixture, then they really will outline their credentials as title contenders.
