Ralf Rangnick has been speaking to the media after Manchester United drew 1-1 with Chelsea, and he made an interesting comment about Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, the German was asked whether the Red Devils are still an attractive club to the top players from across Europe.

Rangnick sounded pretty defeatist when responding, as he basically said there’s no way Manchester United can compete with Liverpool right now.

As quoted by The Times, the 63-year-old said: “We also have to realistic, as soon as other clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man City are involved then you need some good reasons.”

In our view, Liverpool fans will enjoy reading these comments.

When Sir Alex Ferguson famously said he would knock Liverpool off their perch, and proceeded to do just that, it felt like it would be a lifetime until the tables turned again.

However, it has only taken less than a decade after the Scot retired in 2013 for Jürgen Klopp to put things back to how they were in English football.

Now, no player with any sense would prefer a move to Old Trafford over Anfield, as Rangnick basically said himself.

Manchester United must copy Liverpool

Manchester United supporters won’t enjoy hearing this, but the Red Devils have to copy what Liverpool did after firing Brendan Rodgers.

It was a painful process, and also a lengthy one, as Klopp filtered his way through the likes of Joe Allen, Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure, Jordan Ibe to gems such as Thiago, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

There is no quick fix. We repeat, there is no quick fix.

Manchester United have been under the impression there is one for around nine years now, as they throw millions at big names, and hope they gel together on the pitch.

As Ian Holloway once said: “Football isn’t instant coffee. You have to work at it. You must grow the bean, grind it.”

Now, it’s time for Erik ten Hag to grind a bean of his own at Old Trafford.
