Gary Neville aimed a jibe at Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto before Leeds United were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Salford City.

When former Leeds man Michael Bridges was talking about how ‘vital’ both players are to Daniel Farke’s side, given the off-field issues about their future.

A certain Gary Neville couldn’t help but respond by saying ‘Have they turned up tonight?’, as he told Sky Sports Football (29/08/23 at 7:10 pm).

It wasn’t so long ago that Wilfried Gnonto was refusing to play for the club because he wanted to secure a transfer away from the club – Agbonlahor slammed his actions, at the time.

Whilst Luis Sinisterra was also absent for a while, after featuring and scoring on the opening day of the new Championship season.

All of that, even with the transfer window still open, has seemingly been put to bed, but Neville couldn’t help but poke fun at the situation.

“Sinisterra and Willy Gnonto, there have been a lot of stuff off the field, lately,” said Bridges. “Willy Gnonto is such a vital player for Leeds United.

Neville responded: “Have they turned up tonight?”

Bridges added: “They are delighted they have turned up. They have sorted all their differences out off the field, Gary. You will be delighted to know.”

Leeds suffer Salford defeat

In the end, it wasn’t a great evening for Leeds because they ended up getting knocked out of the EFL Cup to the League Two side after a penalty shootout.

If the Whites were still a Premier League side, then fans probably would have been more annoyed.

But given that the main priority is promotion, then that’s one less thing to worry about for the team.
