Championship duo Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday reportedly want Coventry City’s Jordan Willis.

Replacing Fikayo Tomori will be easier said than done for Derby County.

The Chelsea loanee enjoyed a superb 2018/19 season at Pride Park, winning the club’s Player of the Year award ahead of Mason Mount, Harry Wilson and co. So Frank Lampard will have a big hole to fill when Tomori makes his return to Stamford Bridge after the Championship play-offs.

But it seems the Rams are already planning ahead.

According to Coventry Live, Derby are interested in signing Coventry City’s 24-year-old talisman Jordan Willis when his contract expires at the end of the season. A commanding and cultured centre-back, Willis certainly has the potential to step into the void left by Tomori’s exit.

The report added that a number of other Championship clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday, are also eyeing a bargain deal for arguably League One’s finest defender.

But it seems the Owls are now going all-out to sign a different defender altogether. The Mail claims that Julian Borner is on his way to Hillsborough from Armenia Bielefeld.

The 29-year-old skipper has held talks with Wednesday, having turned down a contract extension from the German second tier outfit.

And this should give Derby an added push in Willis’s direction.
