Tottenham Hotspur can’t ignore reports that Real Madrid have dropped their valuation of the Welshman.

Right now, Tottenham Hotspur fans are dreaming of two things.

First, they want to beat Liverpool in the Champions League final on June 1 which, given Tottenham’s lack of spending over the past 18 months, would be a phenomenal achievement.

But Spurs supporters also can’t help but find themselves enamoured by the idea of Gareth Bale going back to North London this summer.

The Welshman has been regularly linked with a return to the Lilywhites since leaving for Real Madrid in 2013, but the prospect of a romantic return looks a bit more credible this time amid reports that Real are desperate to punt him.

And if a report from AS in Spain is true, Tottenham must take advantage of it.

The Spanish outlet claimed today that Real could potentially accept as little £52 million for the 29-year-old attacker, who turns 30 in July. In April, AS claimed that Madrid would demand £114 million.

Even £52 million is a lot of money in ordinary circumstances, but these are extraordinary circumstances because Bale is, of course, an extraordinary player and for those figures, they simply must bring him back after such a dramatic price-cut.

There was even talk that the Spanish giants would offload him for free, just to get him off the wage bill, but it seems a lot more likely that they’ll get a transfer fee and Mauricio Pochettino should be all over it.

He must be attracted to the idea of playing in their new stadium, and working under Pochettino, one of the best in the business, but whether the North Londoners take the bait remains to be seen.
