Liverpool are thought to be keen admirers of the Real Madrid forward.
Real Madrid ace Marco Asensio spoke to reporters about his current situation at the Santiago Bernabeu, declaring that he wants to remain in the Spanish capital for the foreseeable future, and dealing Liverpool a blow in their hopes of signing him in the process, as quoted by Spanish publication Marca.
The 22-year-old forward is one of the most highly-coveted young players in world football, and has already made a name for himself at Madrid, scoring 20 goals in 75 outings for Los Blancos.
Spanish media outlet Don Balon claimed earlier this month that Liverpool had tabled a £131 million bid for Asensio – one that was subsequently rejected by Real.
The Spain international spoke to reporters about his future in Madrid, and insisted that it is his ambition to stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu, as quoted by Marca:
“I always try with everything I have left. To reach the biggest club in the world where there are millions of fans and a lot of pressure was a brutal change. My debut was in a final. I was not nervous, I scored a goal and I won my first title. In all my debuts I’ve always been able to score goals and I have come to Madrid to stay and score many goals.”
The Merseyside outfit are flush with cash, after January’s £145 million sale of Philippe Coutinho, but they surely do not have the financial muscle to force Madrid into selling their young star.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Florentino Perez will not sell Asensio for a penny less than €720 million (£635 million), and if that is the case, he will surely not be going anywhere anytime soon.
