Rangers could have pulled off a great signing by landing Louis Moult from Motherwell – but he’s reportedly bound for Championship outfit Preston.

After months of endless speculation, it appears that Louis Moult won’t be signing for Rangers after all.
The Scottish Sun reports that the prolific Motherwell striker has rejected the chance to move to Ibrox in January and will instead go south of the border to sign for Preston North End.
It is understood that Preston boss Alex Neil has convinced Moult to sign a pre-contract agreement with the Championship club – meaning he will move to Deepdale at the end of the season when his deal with Motherwell expires.

Preston, then, can give themselves a hearty pat on the back after landing the top scorer in Scottish football on a free transfer.
The former Stoke City youngster, who netted 15 times in each of the last two seasons, has eight to his name so far in 2017/18 – one ahead of Scott Sinclair and Alfredo Morelos.
But there’s no doubt that Rangers will be hugely disappointed with their hopes of finally bringing Moult to Ibrox seemingly over. The Gers know just how good Moult can be, the striker scoring twice against them in the Scottish League Cup semi-final this season.

Though with a return to England looking inevitable, Moult will leave Gers fans tearing their hair out again as arguably the best bargain signing of the season slips through their grasp.
Rangers spent big in the summer on a number of overpriced and underwhelming imports. Moult, a player proven in Scotland’s top flight, would have been welcomed with open arms on the blue half of Glasgow.
