Rangers want to sign Ben Woodburn, so are their chances of bringing him to Ibrox better after this past weekend?

Rangers’ attempts to sign Ben Woodburn on loan may have been enhanced after his Champions League final omission.

It was not surprising Woodburn did not start the game, but the Rangers target failed to even make the bench.

The Express reported last week Steven Gerrard is attempting to convince Woodburn to sign on loan at Ibrox, and this works in Rangers’ favour.

Woodburn is already a senior Wales international and has scored for his country, and he needs to start playing regular club football. Rangers would be in a position to offer it.

Liverpool kept hold of him in the second half of the season just gone despte loan interest, only to give him just six minutes of playing time.

At the weekend they did not pick him on the bench against Real Madrid, preferring Adam Lallana.

Lallana was needed after Mohamed Salah was injured, and he offered nothing.

Perhaps Liverpool will look at this and decide they should be giving Woodburn a shot, but it is more likely they sign a replacement for Lallana, with Nabil Fekir one possibility.

If Rangers were looking for a sign that Woodburn could be signed, they may have got it at the weekend, and the teenager should jump at the chance to play for the club next season.
