Have Pedro Caixinha’s signings oddly helped keep Rangers board on side following Europa League humiliation?

A recent report confirmed that Glasgow Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha will not be sacked by the Ibrox hierarchy currently, despite the humiliation.

Pedro Caixinha has already received the often ominous vote of confidence from the Rangers hierarchy, with the Daily Mail reporting that there are currently no plans to sack the Portuguese despite their humiliating exit in the first qualifying round of the Europa League.

The Mail adds however, that the Gers plan to undertake an entire restructure of the infrastructure at Ibrox, so it appears that the board are concerned that without significant changes, things may not improve during the coming season.

So with the board seemingly conceding that something is not right, could it be fair to suggest that Caixinha’s summer signings may have actually helped keep the board on side?

In the defeat to Progres, the likes of Fabio Cardoso, Alfredo Morelos and Daniel Candeias all started, while Dalcio and Eduardo Herrera came on during the latter stages – with none of them particularly impressing.

While Caixinha has also added some much more recognisable names to his squad during this window in Ryan Jack and Bruno Alves, it could surely be argued that the lack of knowledge about the previously-mentioned quintet – as well as Carlos Pena, who did not feature in Luxembourg – could leave the Gers board more hesitant about making a change.

Five of those signings have come from leagues where Caixinha has previously worked – while Morelos’ path to Rangers has also been unusual – and given how well travelled the 46-year-old is, it could definitely be suggested that few managers stand a better chance of knowing what it will take to get the best out of these players as they will surely struggle to have significant knowledge of all of the signings.

Caixinha appears to have not been close to the sack following the defeat, but perhaps the board’s decision to keep him is partially down to the fact that finding another boss who has an extensive knowledge of the large majority of the club’s summer signings would probably be an impossible mission.
