Troy Deeney’s comments to the Express and Star suggest that both West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United have missed their chance to sign the striker.

Newcastle and West Brom both went for Deeney in January, as reported by ESPN, but neither got a deal over the line.

The Daily Mail suggested that Watford wanted £20 million for Deeney, which both Newcastle and West Brom refused to pay.

And it seems that the Premier League pair may have missed their chance now.

Deeney has suggested that he wants to stay at Watford for the long-term now.

“I think I’ll be staying at Watford for a long, long time now. That’s the aim,” he said.

Deeney has comeback into Watford’s starting line-up more recently, after netting two goals in his last five appearances.

The Hornets new boss Javi Gracia appears to feel that Deeney has a key role to play, which means Newcastle and West Brom are likely to have to look elsewhere if they want a new striker in the summer.

Both Newcastle and West Brom are currently battling against the drop, with Alan Pardew’s side stuck at the bottom of the Premier League table.
