The Mirror reported of Middlesbrough’s interest in George Saville of Millwall last night, claiming that Tony Pulis’s side were ready to make a £7 million move for the midfielder.

Saville has been on the books of Millwall since the summer of 2017 when he moved from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee reported by The Mirror to be worth £350,000.

The Mirror claimed that Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis is trying to sign the 25-year-old midfielder on loan until January and then make the move permanent.

The report also stated that Boro will be successful in their quest for the Northern Ireland international midfielder only if Millwall can Sheffield United’s Ryan Leonard.

The Mirror claimed that United are demanding £1 million as transfer fee for the 26-year-old, who can operate as a defender or as a midfielder, for a permanent deal.

It seems that Middlesbrough have gone a step closer to signing Saville, with Sky Sports (Transfer Live blog, 12:56pm, Friday, August 31, 2018) reporting that Millwall are closing in a deal to sign Leonard.

Leonard will reported move to Millwall initially on loan until January when it will be made permanent, and this could open the door for Middlesbrough to sign Saville on loan today.

Saville is a good midfielder, and he would be a smart signing for Boro in their quest to win promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.
