Speculation regarding the Tottenham Hotspur defender joining Manchester United has quietened down.
Having been heavily linked with Danny Rose for an extended period, it appears that Manchester United’s interest in the Tottenham Hotspur defender may now have waned.
Amidst uncertainty over his future at Tottenham, Rose was linked with a switch to United last summer and speculation continued last month that the England international could sign for Jose Mourinho’s side as reported by The Sun.
However, the rumours regarding Rose’s possible move to Old Trafford have now died down somewhat and Luke Shaw’s recent form may be an important contributory factor.
Having previously been isolated under Mourinho, Shaw has managed to work his way into the Portuguese’s plans and has produced some impressive performances in recent weeks.
Shaw is playing with much determination and enthusiasm, with the 22-year-old eager to ensure that he is part of England’s World Cup squad in the summer.
Rose, meanwhile, has struggled to find his best form since recovering from a serious knee injury and he is currently sidelined with a minor problem.
Suddenly, United’s need for a new left-back is no longer as pressing as it previously was, and in any case they may have faced a very difficult task in attempting to persuade Tottenham to sell Rose.
As it stands, Mourinho can be content with United’s left-back as Shaw is first-choice, with Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian all capable of filling in there if needed.
Rose would still represent an excellent signing for United, but the club no longer need to make it a priority to sign him.
