Liverpool and Bayern Munich will go head-to-head in the Champions League next month.
Liverpool face Bayern Munich in the first-leg of the first knockout round of the Champions League on February 19th, before they head out to Germany for the return leg three weeks later, and Jürgen Klopp’s men might have just received a massive boost to their hopes of advancing through to the quarter finals.
Müller, 29, was sent off during Bayern’s 3-3 draw with Ajax in December, after catching Nicolas Tagliafico in the head with a start boot, and he initially thought he would receive just a one-game ban.
According to the Sun, however, after the incident was revised by a Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, the Germany international has now received a two-game ban instead, so he will be ineligible to play either leg against Liverpool.
The Reds will obviously have their work cut-out, if they are to progress through against the German giants, but their task will be made so much easier with Müller being unavailable to play.
The 100-capped Germany international has been a vital player for Bayern throughout the years, chalking up an impressive 181 goals and 157 assists in 465 appearances in all competitions.
Liverpool boss Klopp will surely be delighted to hear that Müller will be missing for Bayern, and the Merseyside outfit might just now be considered as favourites to progress from the tie.
