Matej Vydra and Jordan Hugill could become teammates at Leeds United next season.

Leeds United are continuing to pursue Derby County forward Matej Vydra who netted 21 Championship goals last season.

Leeds Live report Vydra is most likely to play in the number 10 role, where he starred for Derby last season, which has left the question over who will actually lead the line for the Whites?

The perfect solution may have presented itself over the weekend, with The Sun reporting Leeds are keen to sign Jordan Hugill on loan.

This ticks the boxes for Leeds in terms of finances, and playing style.

Firstly if Leeds sign Vydra for the £12 million suggested asking price, it would not leave a lot of funds available to sign a quality centre-forward to play the number 9 role.

A loan deal would be ideal, and Hugill has proven experience at Championship level.

Vydra and Hugill complement each other well in terms of style, and the West Ham forward’s ability to hold the ball up will enable the Derby forward more time in possession.

While Vydra scored 21 goals last season, Hugill netted eight goals in the first half of the season, and has 20 in one-and-a-half seasons for Preston.

Leeds still need to get these deals over the line, but if they can get both in, then they have the makings of a promotion winning partnership… and that is what fans have craved for years.
