Leeds United initially targeted Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner to take over from Garry Monk.
Leeds United fans should be encouraged by the news that David Wagner was on Andrea Radrizzani’s wishlist, prior to Huddersfield Town’s promotion.
Radrizzani had wanted to replace Garry Monk with Wagner, following the 38-year-old’s shock resignation (Yorkshire Evening Post).
And although the move didn’t come off for the Whites, Leeds fans should still be encouraged by the news of their interest in the German manager.
Wagner was one of the most in-demand bosses in England over the past campaign, and Leeds’ interest shows their intent.
At the moment it is not clear exactly who Leeds are targeting to replace Monk.
But Whites fans can surely be assured that no left-field appointments like Dave Hockaday or Darko Milanic are on Radrizzani’s agenda.
If Leeds had the ambition to target Wagner, then they are clearly thinking big.
And although the identity of Monk’s successor is not yet known, Radrizzani’s initial plans can only be a good sign.
