Leeds took Lovatt on trial earlier this month, but he has now temporarily joined Brighton.

Exciting teenage talent Adam Lovatt has reportedly joined Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on trial, just weeks after doing the same with Leeds United – so have the Whites made a mistake?

Hastings United – who play in the Isthmian South East division – reported earlier this month that youngster Lovatt had joined Leeds on trial for five days.

Lovatt then took to Twitter himself after his trial spell at Thorp Arch had ended, claiming that he had only spent two days with the Leeds United squad instead of five.

Now, TeamTalk report that Lovatt is going on a second trial, this time with Chris Hughton’s Brighton. Interest is beginning to hot up in the midfielder, who has seemingly caught the eye with his performances for semi-pro side Hastings.

Leeds are reportedly still keen on signing Lovatt, but since the trial they now face huge competition from a whole host of English sides looking to nab his signature.

Crystal Palace, Brentford, Reading and West Brom are all said to be interested, and are tracking the 18-year-old’s progress. So, did Leeds make a mistake in failing to offer Lovatt a contract when they had the chance?

It seems as though Lovatt is certainly a player with huge potential. It comes as somewhat of a surprise that he is playing at semi-pro level, with Premier League and Championship clubs interested.

For a top-tier side to looking at Lovatt, it suggests that they believe he has the potential to have an impact in the next two or three years in the Premier League. That makes it a mistake on Leeds’ part not to offer him a contract.
